Yellowstone National Park – Highly Recommended (Part 2)

Posted on July 3, 2022July 3, 2022 by JEAN

If you missed the post for part 1, you can read that here. https://enjoyingourdash.com/?p=1093

After the Mid Geyser Basin and the beautiful grand prismatic spring, we headed toward the Canyon Village. We made a stop at Gibbon Falls, number 3 on our map. The view here was just beautiful.

The drop of the Gibbon falls is about 84 feet.

Next we continued on our way to Canyon Village stop 4 on our map. The drive was fascinating. We would go from climbing up and down mountains, to being in open plains for as far as we could see.

Just as we passed by the visitor center for the Canyon Village area, we saw a pair of vehicles on the side of the road. We didn’t know why they were stopped, but soon realized that they were looking at one of these!

We found our way to the North Rim road and the lower falls area. This area is called the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone for good reason.

The lower falls has a drop of 308 feet, which is almost twice the drop of Niagara Falls.

We also stopped at Grand View and it was properly named.

Our final stop was the Norris Geyser Basin (number 5 on our map).

This area had two distinctly different looks. One area has a boardwalk that takes you through more of a prairie area with various geysers along the way. The geyser below is the Steamboat Geyser. This geyser does not have predictable eruptions. It was interesting when we were parking in this area. There were signs everywhere that said ‘Park at your own risk’. Once We got close enough to read them, it was basically a warning that if the Steamboat Geyser erupted, it could cause damage to the paint on your vehicle.

The other section in the Norris Geyser Basin is a vast field of geysers. This area has no vegetation because of all the geysers. Consequently, this area looks like it could be the surface of the moon and not earth!

Check out these videos. Nature is just amazing.

Great!! Glad that we can inspire you. This is something that must be seen in person. The pictures are great, but it is so much better in person.

I’m so glad that you got to experience Yellowstone. There is no other place on earth quite like it. It has left so many indelible impressions on my mind. I’d love to go visit it again before I die.
