Fun in Frankenmuth

Posted on July 3, 2025July 3, 2025 by JEAN

We had the opportunity to spend a few days in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This was my first time here, so of course we had to do what everybody does – eat a chicken dinner.

We chose Zehnder’s over the Bavarian inn. The meal was very good although if I’m being honest the chicken was probably a little drier than I like it. Our waitress was awesome and gave us enough to take home for several more meals.

While there, we had the opportunity for several adventures. The first was a solo experience for me.

They have an amazing aerial park very close to where we glamped. The Frankenmuth Aerial Park included ropes course activities and zip lines. It was kind of cool the way it was set up because they had different levels of difficulty similar to ski resort trails. The picture below shows the courses, indicating the number of zip lines and the difficulty.

The park is also somewhat unique in that you register for a particular time, however, you experience the courses self-guided. During the mandatory safety talk, they teach you how to do all the hookups with the cables and the trolleys for the zip lines. The last instruction of the safety talk is to yell “orange”, if you need some sort of help. The instructors are roaming around on the ground and will come to your aid if necessary. After the safety talk, you’re on your own for approximately two hours. You can do as many of the courses you can complete during your time period.

The ropes course included numerous different and unique balance activities.

I had an amazing time. I was able to complete three of the courses. This is a definite do over if we are in the area again.

Of course we made the obligatory stop at Bronners. The store is amazing. There is so much stuff you could get lost in there for days!!

One of our days in Frankenmuth was all about blacksmithing and beignets. We found a cool adventure at a place called the Blacksmith Experience.

Here you get the opportunity to grab a hammer, beat and twist hot metal into a piece of your choice. They had all kinds of different items that you could make. The choices ranged from crosses, heart pendants, fire pokers, a magic wand to knives and daggers.

While we waited for the experts to put the finishing touches on our blacksmithing masterpieces, we found the perfect spot to reward ourselves for all of our hard work.

So what did we make?? Check out the finished products below!! On the left is a rail spike dagger that I made and on the right is the rail spike knife that Ed made. Each of these began as a rail spike as their name suggests.

We really enjoyed this experience. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area. https://www.blacksmithexperience.com/book-online

Looks like a fun time on the rope course. Not sure I would have done it. I can’t hardly walk on level ground. I guess it’s a way to get some exercise and not realize it’s really exercise.
Making something with the black Smith looks like fun. I remember many many years ago in Williamsburg, Virginia I made a small horse shoe. I still have the horse shoe.
Have fun on your ventures and be safe!
Happy 4th! Hopefully you can enjoy some fireworks!

Oh, man! What fun times you must have had, especially on the outdoors courses. I’d love to try that and the blacksmithing, too. Rose is more a beignets and coffee person.

Always love visiting Frankenmuth when visiting family in MI near the Blue Water Bridge. So many amazing shops in the little town to explore! Glad you had a great time there!
