After Carlsbad, we headed back north the see what other historical sites was could find along Route 66.
Our next stop was the Route 66 Casino and RV Resort, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was looking forward to this stop because Momma likes to hit the casinos just to see how long I can make my money last! The resort is just beautiful and so is the casino.
We checked out the Route 66 Visitors’ Center. It was quite a beautiful building with some interesting displays. The building opened in April, just in time for the 100 anniversary celebration.
We took a drive down ‘The Mother Road’, as it is called. You could still see some of the old neon signs for the hotels and other businesses. For the most part, it just looked like a typical road. They did have some cool markers placed along the road.
We continued our tour down Route 66 (now I-40). Our next stop was Winslow, Arizona. We stayed at the Homolovi State Park. The park is basically in the middle of the desert, so it was interesting to see these guys on the road.
On the morning that we left, the donkeys were actually in the campsite area. Most of them stood on the edge of the campsites, but two of them walked down into the middle of the camping area.
Ok back to the town. Now, I bet you are thinking to yourself, wait where do I know Winslow Arizona from. Well if you have ever heard the song ‘Take It Easy’ by the Eagles, then you know…

The town has really leaned into the lyrics and dedicated a corner to them.
My guys wanted to get in on the action!
It was a really cool stop, especially for us because was are big fans of the Eagles (the band, not the football team)

I love how Maverick and Cole have bonded. Your trip updates always look like so much fun. Enjoy the west before it gets too hot. It’s been very hot and humid here for the last few days, but what the heck, it’s Florida.
