One of the cool things that’s available for those traveling with an RV these days, is a network of small businesses and individuals who are willing to share their land with RVers. It is very much like AirBnB for RVers. Harvest Host https://harvesthosts.com/ and Boondockers Welcome are the two apps that join these groups together. Harvest Host participants allow you to spend one night for free with no hookups. All that they ask is that you support their business in some small way. Harvest Host has almost 4000 locations across the nation. These locations include wineries, breweries & distilleries, farms, and museums. Below is a map of all the locations.
We took advantage of our Harvest Host membership to book a night along our travels in McCammon, Idaho. https://membership.harvesthosts.com/member/host/profile/diamond-p-grassroots-bison . Here we spent the night at a Bison Ranch. It was an incredible experience. The owner conducts a wagon ride into the Bison field where they keep the females and their new babies.
Once in the field, we had a chance to get up close and personal with the bison. We even had a chance to feed them ‘treats’. They came right up to the wagon and ate out of our hands. Click on the video below to see the bison in action!
Wanna know the coolest part….for all you fans of Yellowstone out there, you have seen these bison! Yep that’s right! Jenny told us the story of how they originally had the bison in Utah before they purchased this property. They needed to get the herd moved to the new ranch in Idaho. She said that all she knew to do was pray. So she did. Then one day they got a call from the person that is responsible for securing the livestock for the filming of Yellowstone. They wanted to film their bison herd for the series. Jenny’s response was ‘sure, and can you move them to Idaho when you are done?’ She says that the Yellowstone producers still have a lot of footage that hasn’t been used. So next time you watch Yellowstone, look for the Diamond P Grassroots bison!!
