Off to New England We Go!!

Posted on July 1, 2023July 1, 2023 by JEAN

Our travels continued to take us north to Connecticut, Rhode Island and Cape Cod. We experienced some absolutely gorgeous sights of the coast line.

In Rhode Island, we stayed in Point Judith. This is a spot that Ed remembers from his youth, when his Uncle brought him here to go on a charter fishing trip. The sights have changed a bit, but it was another fun trip down memory lane. We saw the Point Judith lighthouse and took long walks around the campground. After his walks, Cole loved to nap in the grass at the campsite!

We had our first taste of New England seafood watching the boats go in and out of the docks. Lobster roll for me, New England clam chowder for Ed.

While in Rhode Island, we took a trip over to Newport at the suggestion of one of our family members. Boy are we glad we did! It is a great town with lots of history and beautiful homes. There is a tour you can take that allows access to some of the oldest mansions in the country. You can find information on the tours here https://www.newportmansions.org/. Our situation didn’t allow us to take the tours, but we did get to see the outside and some of the amazing views of the ocean that these mansions have. The pictures below are of The Breakers, a Vanderbilt summer cottage. Can you imagine?!

In addition to the tour of the mansions, you can take a stroll along the coast line on the Cliff Walk. Here you can walk along the cliffs behind the mansions as well as, the private homes that dot the coast. You can find more information and pictures here http://www.cliffwalk.com/. We talk a short walk on a portion of the trail.

We enjoyed a walk around Fort Adams as well. Fort Adams is a former United States Army post that was established on July 4, 1799 as a First System coastal fortification, named for President John Adams who was in office at the time.

Before we knew it, our time is Rhode Island was up and it was time to head to on our way. Our next stop – Cape Cod!

We were docked at Fort Adams when we were there. Had our lobsterbake in the open room overlooking the bay. Glad you are enjoying your trip.

Now you’re in my neck if the woods. You’re going to enjoy Cape Cod. If you head north up the coast from there be sure to stop in Plymouth. America’s hometown, where it all began.
